Rosapenna Old Downings, County Donegal, Ireland
Old' Tom Morris recognised the potential of the turf at Rosapenna for a natural golf course and was vindicated in that only three of the eighteen greens had to be laid. James Braid and Harry Vardon, two other great masters of the game later modified the layout to enhance the course greatly. Rosapenna golf links is a combination of natural links and some inland holes which stand on a peninsule between two lovely bays. The first ten holes play along Sheephaven Bay between the bay and a range of tall sand dunes. The last eight return inland and uphill and the elevated situation of these holes present lovely views.
